Therapy for new parents
Navigating Parenthood
Whether you are considering having a child for the first time or becoming a parent all over again, entering into parenthood with each child is a uniquely rewarding and challenging experience. I see both individuals and couples who are seeking help in navigating the world of parenthood.
I help parents and their infants and toddlers with issues surrounding:
Pregnancy
Miscarriages and abortions
Traumatic birth experiences
Bonding with your baby
Postpartum depression
Nursing/Feeding issues
Sleep problems
Going back to work
Child's developmental milestones
Potty training
Starting daycare or preschool
Separation anxiety
Changes in parents' sense of self and relationships to partner, family, and friends
I specialize in working with expectant and new parents. Parents come to see me for help with concerns about how to navigate the transition into parenthood, both in terms of caring for their young children and in how this transition affects their identity, relationships, and sense of self.
While I work with parents on their own, I also conduct sessions with parents and their infants or toddlers. It is often really useful for me to meet with both parent and child to better understand your relationship and the struggles you may be having. If appropriate, I can arrange to meet with you and your child in your home.
Strengthening the Parent-Child Relationship
My approach in helping parents address their concerns around parenting is to understand the ways your own upbringing affects your parenting while also helping you identify and capitalize on the strengths in your relationship with your child. When parents are stressed, worried, or overwhelmed, they can lose track of the moments that are working well. Together we will re-discover and build on those moments to help you overcome the difficulties you are currently facing as a parent.
I do not see children over the age of three years old. If you are experiencing difficulty with your child over the age of three, I am happy to consult with you and provide you with referrals to colleagues who specialize in school age children.
